Heaven help me, I am driving to Springfield from Raleigh on the day before Thanksgiving. My elderly mother lives in Springfield, my brother and his family live in NorthEast DC.

Because it took us so long to make a commitment, I have just discovered that my brother was not planning to cook thanksgiving at his house on Thursday. He was instead thinking of picking up a complete dinner from Wegmans on Friday to take to Mom's house.

Mom can't cook (Very bad back) and neither my brother nor I want to cook the whole dinner in her kitchen on Thursday.

I looked at Wegmans but was not thrilled with their choice of side dishes.

Can anyone recommend other places in NVA to get at minimum a Turkey and/or some sides to pick up on Thanksgiving day?

We're getting our Thanksgiving Dinner from Balduccis. Serves 6-8, and they have a pre-cooked option. You'll just have to heat everything up on T'giving day. There is a Baludccis in Alexandria. You could also try Whole Foods.

(However, be prepared for some potential sticker shock.)

Boston Market has been advertising their Thanksgiving meals, and that they are open on Thanksgiving Day (although I would allow a considerable amount of time to pick it up, as I've seen very long lines at the location near me).

There is a location in Burke which is very close to Springfield.

FWIW, it's been eons since I ate at a Boston Market but I remember it being decent.

Forgot to mention with my Balduccis reccomendation (and too late to edit my post) that we ordered from them last Thanksgiving and really enjoyed it. Obviously enjoyed it enough to order it again, despite being a bit on the pricey side.

Balducci's is definitely on the pricy side; methinks blows Whole Foods out of the water... Never gotten Thanksgiving dinners from them but have ordered from the deli counter and IMO I'd go with Whole Foods. Do consider getting something from Wegman's for example, e.g., turkey and then just making a few quick sides on your own. Just a thought.

Whole Foods is a bit cheaper, but after having had both, I prefer Balduccis overall. The WF meal was just meh. Not bad, but not particularly great.

I've never had Wegman's, so I can't really compare to that.

Oh, my mom loves Balduccis almost as much as she loves Wegmans!

Thanks for the ideas. We had not thought of whole foods either.

Sounds like you're a fairly small group (assuming not too many children) -- ever consider a turkey breast and honey baked ham?? They offer yummy side dishes/desserts as well.

Prayers for a safe trip!
