Hi there, I am going to be working in Fort Belvoir in January and I'm looking for a studio apartment. I've done a few days worth of research and am planning on visiting Alexandria to tour several places this coming weekend. I would appreciate any input you guys have about the following places and/or any suggestions you might have. My only stipulation would be to not be right next to route 1 since I've heard that's a bad area

Broadstone Van Dorn
Key Towers
Skyview
Kingstowne? I was told this was a very desirable area to live but I didn't find anything that offered studio apartments. And 1 bedroom apts cost like 1600+ per month

Broadstone Van Dorn - no free utilities and has had a history of problems with mice.
Key Towers - the immediate Landmark area is not the best crime-wise but it is not that bad (I used to live very closeby) the complex is okay
Skyview - I'm no fan of the area but it is probably comparable to the Landmark area in regards to safety
Kingstowne is nice but there are a huge lack of studio apartments

I would also look in Lorton since it is not a horrible commute to Belvoir and has some decent apts that are comparable in price to your other choices.

Thanks!

I will definitely keep those things in mind and check out Lorton

Edit: My main gripe with kingstowne is that it's right on the borderline of being too expensive for me. The lowest I've found is 1.4k/month and that breaks my heart. Although if the crime you mentioned is significant I suppose the extra rent is worth it.

It will really depend on where you are coming from if the crime I mentioned would be too much for you. Do those areas have a slightly higher crime rate than most of Northern VA? Yes. Are they dangerous? Absolutely not, I say that as someone who has lived in larger areas like Hampton Roads and Louisville.
