One of my classes this semester requires that I observe children playing and write down my observations...

Putting aside how creepy I will feel doing this, I have a question, what kind of places would allow this, and are any of them open on the weekends?

Can you just go to a park or Chuck E Cheese or something on the weekend? Or does it have to be some kind of supervised setting?

Hmmm, I might be able to run that past the professor, I don't think it needs to be some formal licensed day care center.

You might also be able to go to a kindergarten or elementary school and observe what they do during recess. As long as you coordinate it with the administration it shouldn't be an issue. You could even combine it with a presentation to the class or classes on what you're doing.

As Vector mentioned earlier, if it is 'allowable' for school purposes, consider various sporting events around the area, both at schools and parks. Quite a few kids of various ages out and about playing (weeknights and weekends).

I think Chuck E Cheese has a policy that adults are not allowed in without a child. I know some playgrounds in other cities have that rule as well. As a parent, if I saw an adult without kids walk up, watch kids play, and write down/record what they are observing, I'd be suspicious.

Exactly.

May be you can join your friend who has a kid when you go to such parks/chuck e cheese. This way you wouldn't look creepy.

True. I mean, I can go with my niece and she can tear Chuck E. Cheese apart for an hour or so. Although I don't know if I'll be able to survive the feet smell without passing out.
