Definitely. Port Potomac is pretty far south (it's really Dumfries) and Rt. 1 is and has always been a "light after light" nightmare. Best avoided.

Another colleague of his lives in Montclair and it's a toss up between, since they opened the HOV lanes, now all depends on the time of day.
I live close to Montclair but on the Woodbridge side. I always hit I95 and the Dale City/Rippon exit. I never hit traffic accessing I95. It's a breeze. it takes me about 8 minutes with lights no matter if it's 5AM or 8AM. Now Dale City to the Occoquan is quite another story!

I will tell you, though, the everyday errand running around is far easier, not to mention quicker, for me than my friends who live in Fairfax County. Oh, and gas is cheaper, as well as property taxes. The bottom line is that it is cheaper to live here all around.
You are not kidding. This is one thing that can't be explained enough. I don't even think my friends in Fairfax "get it." I guess it's all in what you get used to. Fairfax County has an much larger population that PWC. I am always surprised when I see the stats and read how many more people live there. But, it's most noticeable to me when I am off the interest and just ambling around areas like Springfield, Burke, Fairfax, etc. So many more people. Shopping centers just so much busier. It really is much more crowded and I often forget that.

I find that most roads in and around Woodbridge are pretty easy and open and traffic flows well (with the exception of Rt 1 and the area on the Parkway by Target and Chick-Fil-A. Last night I happened to be coming home from Dulles and wanted to get into Fairfax for dinner. Couldn't do it. It was unreal. Rivals anything I've seen on 95.

I have a Woodbridge/Lake Ridge zip code, but I am within a block of the Town of Occoquan. We love it here. Occoquan is an old town community, very artsy, crafty, boutique type of town on the Occoquan, with some great restaurants. We are 1/2 mile from I95 with only one major intersection in between. In nice weather, it's a snap to walk to the commuter lot with every bus connection possible.
