Landmark is doomed. That was their major anchor.

It sounds like a place is already doomed if Chickfila is the major anchor.

LOL, I never heard of a fast food chain being "the major anchor"

They still have Macy's and Sears as anchors, both of which own their buildings. The rest of the center is apparently being redeveloped. Perhaps Chick-Fil-A will relocate nearby. Also would be nice to see a Roy Rogers return to Landmark area, as they are now expanding again.

Shopper's is frigging horrendous - at least the ones in Sterling and Manassas are. Depressing lighting and store setup, and produce that is always on the verge of spoiling.

I like the Shoppers in Sterling. They renovated it a couple of years ago. Colossal Donuts!

But everything at the mall that's still open will likely be closing in the not-too-distant future -- supposedly for a complete refresh as an outdoor, walkable shopping center, I've read, with new housing and other amenities for developers to create more of a neighborhood. According to some rumors (and there are a lot of those out there!), demolition could start in the fall. I wouldn't be surprised if the mall's owner decides to close down early, even if demolition doesn't come soon, if only to save on utilities.

I think Chick-Fil-A is probably the only viable business left there. Even Macy's customer traffic seems to be a lot softer than I've seen in the past couple of years.

Not a shocker at all, the mall has been slowly closing down for a while now. Its going to be replaced by a Town Center type shopping center.

I never liked Shoppers. Their produce was not what I would want to buy.
I have shopped at Wegman's, Balducci's, Safeway, Giant, Aldi, the Commissary at Ft Belvoir and Shopper's Food.

IMHO the Shopper's Food stores that I have been to (Potomac Yard and US 1 near Home Depot) have excellent produce and meats, and very good prices on other things, as well. Their carry out menu has excellent chicken, and the deli counter is also good. However, the shopping ambiance is MEH!

Here are my ratings of the stores

Value /Quality/Price/Ambiance

Wegman's 2/1/2/1
Balducci 3/1/3/1
Shopper's Food 2/1/2/4
Safeway** 2/2/2/2
Aldi 2/2/2/4
Commissary 2/3/1/4
Giant** 2/2/2/3

** Fancy Store of Chain, using club card
