I regularly find myself at FFX Co vehicle maintenance garages. A while back a FCPD officer was in front of me in line and having a conversation with a lady in line.

I overheard him tell her that it is FCPD "policy" to not write speeding tickets for less than 10 mph over the limit. But I'm sure if an officer violated the "policy" and wrote lower, the department would probably deny that such a "policy" exists....

I usually try to drive 9 mph over the speed especially in FFx county they don't play around!

It averages out to about one stop every year and a half or two years. I've often been let off with a warning. The only tickets I can remember in the last 10 years were the one in Hagerstown and the one on the Parkway (both minor). Oh, and one on S. George Mason, near Wakefield in 2012.

Exactly.

Getting a ticket for 13 over is not out of the ordinary, at all.

It all depends on the highway.

495 is like the autobahn so I probably speed the most on there. Very few cops and everyone is speeding like crazy. I just try to stay under 20 over and not be the fastest person on the road.

66/toll road/395 have way more cops and people don't tend to drive as fast so I try to stay under 70 there.

Careful. I got a ticket last Thursday at 4:30 PM, from a Va State Trooper on 495 (outer loop), right after coming out of the HOT lanes and before the mixing bowl. The speed limit in the HOT lanes is 65. AFTER the HOT lanes it's the regular 55. I got nicked for 73 in a 55. No joke.

To answer your question, I have always been under the impression if you're going less than 10mph over, you're less likely to receive a speeding ticket.
huh?
thought reckless was 20mph over the limit?

md speed cameras are set if you are 11mph over the limit.
so 10mph or less you are fine

To the OP, there is a rhyme for this situation that cops may use "up to nine you are fine, over 10 you are mine."
yup, used to be that for years.
now it's up +14 you are fine, over +15 you are mine

except, apparently, on ffx county parkway
