Hello, everyone. I will be moving to the area soon to take a job in Old Town. I've lived up there before but it has been several years and I lived in Montgomery County then. I'm somewhat familiar with NOVA, however.

Just wondering if you would have one or two specific apartment buildings to check out (or avoid), or at least a good neighborhood. I'll be happy with a one bedroom, ideally $1,500 - $1,700. I don't want to go crazy on price or square footage. Just a quiet-ish, convenient place to live, ideally in Alexandria or Arlington, near a good pub or burger joint. And a walking trail or park. Easy, right?

I'm thinking I'll drive to work. They provide a parking spot and the office is on the river, which strikes me as a bit far from the metro.

The Del Ray neighborhood looks interesting, for example.

Thanks!!

Del Ray is a very cute hood with nice amenities but no walking trail.

Shirlington might be another option to look at. Lots of bars and restaurants to walk to. Four Mile Run Trail is a nice walking trail and is within walking distance. Not a long commute to Old Town either.

There is a running path right along the tracks, not sure of the name, plus Old Town itself is not too far from Del Ray. Not sure about specific apartment buildings in OT, but as you know the area itself is great.

That's a good idea, thanks. I've hung out there before, nice area.

Based on your initial post, I also recommend Del Ray. I'd stay south of the intersection between Mt Vernon and Commonwealth Avenues. North of there you transition into a more densely-populated area that's not as "quiet-ish."

You could also look at Rosemont, which is to the south of Del Ray along Commonwealth Avenue, although your rental options may be more limited.

Shirlington is a popular area, but I wouldn't define it as "quiet-ish."

Crystal City has a lot of apartment options and is near the river trail. Perhaps not as quiet-ish but also a quick Metro ride to lots of places and near Old Town.

Potomac Yards area has lots and lots of new buildings, near Rustico (good burgers, pizza & beers) and Del Ray, between Crystal City and Old Town.
