Moving to NOVA for work at Pentagon. Looking at a home in Newport Estates in Woodbridge or a few homes in Stafford. Is that area of Woodbridge safe. It's near Leesylvania state park or should I just go with a longer commute in Stafford? Please help!

it's across the street (route 1) from the Eastern PWC police station, so you have that going for you.. It also borders a newer, nicer community in Port Potomac/Powells Landing.

Call the police department and ask to speak to the person that can give you the calls for service over the last couple months for whatever streets you are looking at/near in Newport. Her name is Cathy (with the police dept), but I do not have her number handy at the moment.

Also check any of the various sites for registered sex offenders.

When I was with PWCPD Newport Estates was always a quiet area and I can't imagine it's changed. Older but well established neighborhood.

Garfield (PWCPD) is 703 792 7200. Main number.

As fas a sex offenders you will be lucky to find a neighborhood where there are no registered offenders. Most people are clueless that they've lived near a sex offender and never knew it.

I don't know much about the neighborhood but to me, PWC is always a better choice than Stafford. I like Stafford, good schools, quiet, etc but it's far from where the jobs are so your commute is typically very long and expensive if you use the express lanes and even that backs up when trying to get off at the Garrisonville exit in Stafford.

Go with Newport Estates. It might be older than what you can get in Stafford, but commute is EVERYTHING. I live about 3 miles from that neighborhood on the opposite of Rt. 1. It is pretty quiet in this area. I don't think you'll be unhappy.

Newport is close to Route 1 but set far enough back that it's isolated from the undesirable areas. Commuting from there to the Pentagon will be a long trip but coming all the way from Stafford would be brutal. Riding the HOT lanes will help but that gets rather expensive.

Is there any particular reason for you looking for a residence in PWC/Stafford area as opposed to somewhere closer to work? Tracking that prices are lower going south/away from DC, but the traffic to and from work will be brutal IMO even from PWC.

I'd be inclined to, after backing out a couple hundred for utilities, look into Lake Ridge. Get you a touch further North up 95, and close to both commuter lots (if slugging) or direct access to the HOV/express lanes if coming down onto Rte123. A little trade off in traffic coming down Old Bridge, depending on time of day/commute, but such is life.

Yes definitely look into the Lakeridge area. Safe, family oriented and a better commute for you overall than either Stafford or Newport Estates
