I have read before some debate about "what" someone gets from a "full service" vs "discount" real estate agent (buying and/or selling). I had commented before that I believe that it is the agent more so than the "company", as well as the communication style and personality fit.

I purchased and sold two homes with "full service" agents; and over the past 3 years have purchased two homes and sold 1 (so I only have one home now) with a "discount" agent - one of the leading, most known firms.

From a purchase perspective, I found a great agent and she did amazing job for me. Very knowledgeable about the market, the area, home values, things to be aware of, etc... I was just as pleased from a purchase standpoint with the "discount" vs "full service". Honestly did not find any difference - service, communication and knowledge were similar. And of course I had the benefit of getting $ rebated back to me at purchase which was a bonus!

From a selling perspective, I interviewed several agencies. Including a full service major real estate company as well as the "discount" agency. I ultimately went with the "discount" agency after I switched agents (personality conflict). I received the same coming soon marketing, multiple listing publications, open house, great pictures (30), 3D walkthrough, printed flyers etc....All of the same services as "full service" for 1% (+ buyers agent fees 3% of course).

My home was priced fairly, staged great (I already had that covered) and combining that with the great pictures for internet presentation - my home was under contract with multiple bids within 2 weeks and closed within 6 weeks from start.

I am not sharing to push anyone to using a discount brokerage, nor to take away from a "full service" broker. More to emphasize that in my opinion it is about the AGENT more than the company, and it has to be a good fit from communication and personality styles.

So for me, I know what I work best with - found it - and was able to buy and sell while keeping additional $ in my pocket (which is always needed)!
