Take 6 months leave and become Uber driver. Got it.

If a Metro closure causes gridlock on the region's roads...how would Uber and Lyft be the answer to anything?

Unless they have a helicopter division, maybe.

Uber/Lyft is an answer. Is it a good answer? There probably is no good answer if metro shuts down for 6 months. The roads will be gridlocked. Unfortunately people have to get to work, and if metro is gone they're either busing it or going via car.

Uber/Lyft is not an answer. Do you think people can afford to pay for Uber for 6 months?

Those who can telecommute, should be given a chance to do that so roads will be free for rest of the people to drive.

Bike!!!! It's the only way you can get around traffic.

When Metro closed that one day, I just biked past all the traffic jams and laughed at the fools.

Not everyone has the luxury of being within biking distance of work. In fact, I'm guessing the vast majority of people in the metro area have commutes of 10-20 miles or more each way. And a lot of roads/routes aren't biker friendly

Driving isn't a viable option for some people who work in DC, because of parking issues. Uber/Lyft would have to be the answer for them unless there was a bus available.

Bottom line is metro closing for 6 months would be a train wreck. Here's hoping it never happens

Oh yeah, I forgot about parking issues....

Bottom line is that Metro is recommending this to prevent future train wreck(s). But this kind of massive shutdown is unheard off.

Yes it is. It's not an asnwer for everybody, but for those who can use it, it is an answer. Other answers are biking, walking, slugging, taking a taxi, VRE or MARC, driving, telecommuting, or finding a job near home. One other possible answer: move to some other city, or move closer to your job.

It doesn't sound like the GM is open to closing an entire line for 6 months so the discussion is kind of moot.
