Hi
I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on the best places to live to commute to reston and Bethesda. My husband works in reston, and I'll be starting a new job in Bethesda. We would like to relocate to somewhere that can allow both of us to have hopefully no more than 1hr drive to our jobs. We are both willing to take the metro as well. Any suggestions will be appreciated! Thanks

We would initially like to rent a 3bdr apt or townhouse in the range of $1500-$1900

Basically you're going to be living on the Beltway to achieve close to that hour commute you desire. McLean or Great Falls are really your only options to obtain that commute time. As the other poster sort of alluded to...

1. Space
2. Commute
3. Cost

If you're lucky you get two of those three items for when it comes to housing in the NoVa area. If you can get all three, please dm me your email so I can send you my resume.

That's a very tight budget for this area. I'm certainly not an apartment expert but I think three bedrooms are rare. A townhouse in the price range will not be in a very good area.

My daughter pays roughly $1800 for nice but small one-bedroom apt in Mosaic District (near Dunn Loring Metro stop). She does drive to Marriott (hq in Bethesda) several times a month and says the drive hasn't been that bad. Your Reston commuter could use Metro.

The areas close to the Potomac River (Bethesda/Potomac in MD Great Falls/McLean/Tysons in VA) are extremely expensive areas. Is the Bethesda job convenient to a Metro stop? Bethesda is a large zip and not all are convenient to Metro.

Best of luck.

Something is going to have to give - you are not going to find a 3 bedroom for 1500-1900 with less then an hour commute to both Reston and Bethesda.

I don't think this is correct, as there appear to be some 3-BR townhouses in Tysons (22102 zip code) under $2000/month. They are within an hour to both Reston and Bethesda.

These are older buildings so they won't have all the bells and whistles of newer apartments, but they seem livable.

Thanks for correcting me and giving the OP options.

Seriously? Wow -- where are they located?

There seem to be several places in Pimmit Hills that would qualify. The 3rd BR is really the killer, it opens it up a lot if you restrict to 2BR. Tysons, Vienna, Falls Church are all in the game then.
