Great site IMO; got my past job using it. Seemed like it had many more jobs that were relevant to what I was searching for vs. some other sites I used at the time. I would also look at possible internships, as a means of getting your foot in the door. See some come up especially around summer time with the fed gov't. Check on usajobs.com

I've had very little luck applying directly to companies through job sites. Literally every accounting job I've landed except for one was through a recruiter/headhunter. The one that wasn't through a recruiter was through someone I knew at the company. Especially for someone like OP with no experience his resume will just go into the black hole of online applications and never get much of a look by the hiring manager.

Thank you. Not necessarily aiming for the Big 4 (yet), just would like any accounting exposure.

I mostly have been using Indeed, and have had great luck (getting interviews at least). I've only had a handful of recruiters give me interviews.

Can't apply for anything with the federal government since I am not a U.S. Citizen, which is unfortunate as I have many close connections to those in govt contracting.

Will be applying for internships this weekend.

Please don't take this as an insult as I'm trying to be helpful. You are getting a lot of interviews so you obviously look good on paper. But something is happening with the actual interview.

Have you considered a personal coach-type person to advise you on interviewing tips, clothing choices, body language, etc. Also, they can give you advice on grooming or hygiene that may be holding you back. For example, lingering tobacco smoke smell can be a real turnoff.

Best of luck.

I believe that in the DC area, most accounting jobs are either with the government or with contractors working on government contracts. So if you're not willing to become a US citizen, this is not the best job market for you. If you do get citizenship, there are tons of auditing jobs with USG agencies, which all require an accounting degree (or business degree with a certain number of hours in accounting). Good luck.

Try Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac - they hire foreigners.

But I recommend (as Lynchburg Lover said) that you get a coach. If you are getting interviews, it's not your lack of experience.

Try working for a temp agency. I work at a trade association and our finance department uses a temp agency for bookkeeping/accounting work. Several of the most recent full-time employee hires in the finance department were those initially brought in as temps.
