Has anyone ever bought a used car in Maryland? From a person, not a dealer, I mean. I'm looking for a used car and the most promising one I've seen on Craigslist is in Maryland. I've googled but I only see information for buying new cars. I was just wondering if anyone here had done this. I need to figure out the forms I need to fill out and all that fun stuff.

Thanks!

It's the same as any car purchased - take the title to the DMV, proof of purchase price, etc. - no idea what exactly you are asking.

Exactly. The only other thing you need to worry about above and beyond buying a used car from a Virginia resident, is whether or not the car will pass the safety/emissions inspections.

At least when you buy a car from a Virginia resident in an area that requires emissions, you will have an active inspection which at least gives you the minimum security that the car passed XX months ago.

If you are buying a newer used car, it shouldn't even be a problem.

It makes sense to me some used cars might be better deal in MD.
In VA our car taxes are pretty high on new cars so I presume used car market fairly hot here.

There is one thing that is peculiar to Maryland when it comes vehicle titles.

Sometimes there are two parts to the title....1) the Certificate of Title and 2) the Notice of Security Interest Filing. They are similar in appearance and the latter document is a lien release.

Soooo, look at the front of the Title for any mention of a security interest (lien) and if there is one make sure the seller has the other part of the title.
