Hey all you VICTIMS outside looking like you're about to drop dead while shoveling your driveway for the 8th time in 12 hours.....take it from this Chicago transplant - yes, we're laughing at you from inside our warm and toasty home. Bring the snowblower!

Haha!

(note: meant to be funny) :-)

I hear ya', and can't argue with that! It is good exercise. I'm the only one of my neighbor's who maintains his own yard. They all ask me why I don't have "the guys" take care of it for me. I just like the exercise. Getting out in the heat and sweating out a few too many beverages.

But my time in Chicago broke any love for snow that I had left.

Thanks for all of the advice! I guess we will keep it as long as there is room in the moving truck. I've spent many winters shoveling prior to purchasing the snow blower. I typically don't mind shoveling, but it sure is nice to go out with the snow blower and be done in 1/2 an hour. A luxury for sure.

Shoveling is great exercise and I find it pretty fun overall, with one exception. Even when it snows in DC it is generally pretty close to freezing. Sometimes we get heavy, wet storms that start melting almost immediately. Shoveling 8-12" of wet snow in 35-40 degree temps while the trees rain down on you is not fun at all.

I actually enjoy it when it's a manageable amount like a foot or less, which is like 90% of the snowstorms around here. It's nice getting outside and getting some fresh air and exercise, which doesn't happen too much in the winter.

I'm sure there will be a tipping point someday when I hit a certain age and my creaky back and knees change my outlook on it.

We never had one for the 30 years we lived in the DC area, but we always had a neighbor who did and would clear everyone's long driveways when we got the big February dumps. We always assumed our snow would be too wet for a blower, but the ones who had them did use them.

Definitely keep it. As someone else observed, some winters it won't be used at all. But we've had enough blizzards in the last 5 years (at least 3 I can think of) that totally justified the cost of the machine. That said, you don't need one like some of my neighbors have that would be just the right size for Fargo or International Falls.

If it is paid for, keep it. Virginia is the ultimate wild card with snow.
