At your budget, you could easily afford your own full size home.

if you're set on an apartment, then be advised that many of the complexes around here have income restrictions. My son has been trying to rent an apartment for months and keeps getting told "you make too much money to rent from us". Apartments want HUD money and that means they must rent to lower income.

If your husband is working off Wellington and 234, I wouldn't worry about traffic from anyplace west of that location. North of Haymarket is congested due to the massive neighborhoods, but real traffic starts to build in Manassas. Stay in the Linton Hall Rd area and west of that.

We are not looking to buy a house, as we do not intend to stay in the area for more than 5 years, plus we need to sell the one we are in now. A TH is an option, I think we would just rather go with an apartment though.

As far as income restricted apartments, it only seems to be a small number, from what I can see online.

You all have been very helpful!

Aren't two dogs going to be the problem?

How would they be the problem?? All of the Apartments I've listed allow a limit of 2 pets, including a bunch of others in the area. Yes some have a weight limit and some have breed restrictions, but the weight of our 2 dogs combined is under even the lowest weight limit and they are not one of the restricted breeds.

Some things to consider, I'm not sure the size apartments that you are considering but I believe that you will need to get at least a 3 bedroom probably because of restrictions on number of people per bedroom. There are also size and breed restrictions on dogs.

Often, 3 bedroom apartments are hard to come by compared to 2 bedrooms and are almost as much as renting a town home. I believe the posters suggestion a house meant to rent not to purchase. The rental home (single family and townhomes) is quite robust compared to many other cities.

Something else to consider, there are dog license fees.
