IMO, I think that WMATA should at least allow for some bus lines to run 24/7. Here are my routes:

Central Maryland
-K2
-K6
-J2
-Q2
-Q4
-NH1
D.C.
-30N
-30S
-42
-52
-54
-S2
-S4
-70
-80
-90
-92
-96
-G8
-X2
Northern VA
-1A
-7A
-10A
-10B
-16A (Eliminate 16E late night service)
-16J
-16G
-23A (23T reverts to Rushhours only)
-28A
-38B
-Metroways.

What do you guys think?

I'm a little biased since I live off the 16 bus line but the 7 and 16 lines I imagine would have a lot of support since those go through working class areas of Alexandria and Arlington where more people work 2nd and 3rd shift jobs.

If the 25A was still around, I would of also added that bus. The 25B, I just can't see it ever getting 24/7 service.

It would probably be cheaper for WMATA to pay for cabs/ubers for every single rider at night than run all those bus lines and pay drivers (who then would be sleeping the next day and not available to work).

You guys really overestimate night time ridership.

I agree on over estimating. The metro doesn't and hasn't run 24 hour runs so why would anyone expect them to support buses running those hours?

Those that work 3rd shift have zero traffic worries and often cheap or free parking. There are some that don't own a car but not owning a car and working 3rd shift would be risky.

D.C. in general is pretty lame in terms of a nightlife, but a city is still as city and there are bound to be people that support at least half of the routes I proposed?

People have no business being out past midnight unless they are working. I cannot see the expense of providing metro service for a few drunks. The only "essential" businesses open at that hour are hospitals and pharmacies.

Rita not anyone else's business why some need to be out late. I support it because I think a city needs 24 hour service.

It's not just about drunks. My fiancee has to be in Dupont Circle at 5am many days. He has no car (not to mention he wouldn't want to pay to park) and there is zero WMATA (bus or train) service at that hour. Literally the only way he can get to work is by Uber.

There are ton of professionals who are completely clueless about the plight of those who don't have a cushy 9-5 job. That included me before I met my fiancee.

I definitely think the 38B would have pretty good ridership overnight -- its one of the most popular bus routes in the whole area.

The Washington Post wrote a great article a few years ago about this https://www.washingtonpost.com/local...html?tid=a_inl.
