Myself and a close friend are moving to the area. I will be working in Manassas, VA and he will be in the Capitol Heights, MD area. Preferably we'd like to find somewhere near the middle (or a little closer to Manassas).

We are 28 and 26, both single white males. Ideally we would find a place with people of similar age and with night life available.

I'm not picky about the ethnicity of the area, and budget (should not) be an issue. (I'm making 150k, he's around 55k). We're open to renting a 3/4 BR house and getting another roommate or two to meet people as well.

In the perfect world, the place would have a garage (I have a classic car/motorcycle) and a basement (for a home gym), and be walking distance to some bars/hang outs of people our age.

Bigger question is how long of commute you're willing to tolerate. Traffic around here is horrific and not unusual to be 2-3 times miles in terms of time

Well I'm somewhat used to the traffic down here. I've been staying in Bowie for about 8 months. And NY/NJ is no better in regards to traffic.

Ideally a max of 30 mins to Manassas and 45 to Capitol Heights.

I recommend looking in the Fair Lakes or city of Fairfax area.

Will definitely look in to that. Saw a nice house in Occoquan that seems like it would fit the bill as well. Do you know how that area is?

you need to play around with Google maps and put in the time you will be commuting in order to get a feel for how long. I would say off the top of my head that this would be well over an hour to CH and on a bad day an hour to Manassas (depending on where)

I would look in the Oakton/Vienna area for the sake of the person working in C. Heights.

To me that would help the person working in Manassas more than the person in Cap Heights.

I realize that but my suggestion was in response to this one:

"I recommend looking in the Fair Lakes or city of Fairfax area."

I would go with Kingstowne or the Springfield area if it were me.
