Made a mistake on the departure time in my prior post - I have a 7am flight out of BWI on the START of the Labor Day long weekend, i.e. Sep 1st. I live in Tyson's Corner. I am worried about the traffic. when should I leave to be able to park and make my flight (with a checked baggage). Best route still 495 to 95 to 195?

Sorry for the inconvenience!

Julie

Default Still the same

4am was good advice. Figure an hour travel, unload car, walk to bus stop at parking garage or lot. Then travel time on airport shuttle to terminal. Bwi security is tough to predict. 6am arrival at the terminal to check bags and do security is too close.

Agreed. And traffic will not be an issue at that time of morning.

I'd give myself an hour to get there from tysons. Park in the express lot(best deal, they drop you off at your car) with at least 2 hours to get from the lot to the gate. Just remember they start boarding 30 minutes before departure.

I would look into cheap hotel rooms close by with airport shuttles. Park my car in the airport lot the night before. The next morning, up and out to BWI's front door via shuttle. I detest traveling tired - always been a pet peeve.

If you choose to go the route of parking at a hotel and utilizing their shuttle, always call ahead and ask about their parking restrictions. Many hotels will limit the amount of time you're permitted to leave your car.

I would say 4am, also. Don't feel too bad...I've got two double red-eyes coming up next month....fortunately not with US Legacy carriers....planes are 20 years older, but flight attendants are 20 years younger and the drinks are free.
