Trying to determine the best option for transportation from the Springfield area to Reagan Airport.

Have an upcoming flight on a weekend that departs very earlyon a weekend and wondering if something like a regular taxi service or Uber would work best? Not familiar nor have used over up to this point so any and all suggestions and feedback much appreciated.

Metro is easiest. Springfield and Reagan are both on the blue line. It's about a 15-minute trip. Easy and cheap if you can get a ride to the Franconia-Springfield metro station. Otherwise I would Uber.

Edited to add -- missed the bit about early. Yeah, I would say Uber. Metro doesn't start running until 7:00 on weekends.

Thanks for the feedback! Never used Uber before so how does it work? How far in advance can you schedule it?

You download the Uber app to your smartphone and set up an account with your credit card information. When you're ready to get an Uber, you set your pickup location, enter your destination, select your level of service (uberX will probably suffice) and submit the request. When you set your pickup location, it will show you how long until a driver can pick you up.

There is an option to schedule an Uber in advance, but personally, I've never felt the need, especially in urban areas. I've always been picked up in 5-10 minutes (or less), even at odd hours.

Once you submit your request, it will show you the information of who will be picking you up. Make/model/color of the car, license plate, and photo of the driver. When they arrive, you climb in, they confirm that you're movin2Reston, and you're on your way. When you get to your destination, you simply say "thanks" and hop out. The ride is automatically charged to the card on your account.

There may be a hotel shuttle you can use.

Thank you much appreciated!

Unfortunately Metro is not an option as it is closed given the time I would be needing it.

Uber or Lyft. I've used them both for early morning rides to Reagan from the Springfield area. I never scheduled it in advance - seems to always be cars available. With no traffic, it will probably be around a $30 trip.

Any real difference between Uber and Lyft?

So still no need to schedule in advance even if I'm looking for a pick up around 4:30 a.m.?

Personally, I prefer Lyft because it lets you tip in the app. Other than that, no real difference I can think of.

No need to schedule for a 4:30 pickup. They're running 24 hours a day, and at that time they'll be pretty much done dropping off the 'closing time drunks' and should be plenty available.
