Can anyone tell me how noisy Williamsburg Blvd in Arlington is ? It is a big 2 way street but how is the traffic there ? I'm planning on moving closeby and am worried about kids crossing to go to Williamsburg middle school.

Thanks.

I used to drive that every day. I don't anymore, so there's one less car to be worried about. Unless things have changed drastically, I would describe it as a significant road, but not at all a major thoroughfare. It mostly serves the people who live in the neighborhoods around it. It's not really part of any traffic corridor. Still, there are plenty of people in those neighborhoods, so there will be traffic on it most of the day, and teaching your kids to respect it will be important. Otherwise, I'll leave it to those with more current experiences to amplify and expound, but I would say that for a road of its size and appearance, it has a very low risk (and noise) factor attached to it...

I used to live around the corner, across from O'Connell HS. I've always been surprised that there isn't more traffic on Williamsburg, because it is an excellent shortcut through the North Arlingon/McLean/Falls Church corridor. I still drive through the area regularly. The county has recently narrowed the road to one lane in each direction and added a bike path along a portion. There is a crosswalk with a traffic light at Harrison Street, where the middle school is. I wouldn't have any problem allowing a middle school student to cross without adult supervision -- the sight lines are good and most traffic isn't really moving that fast. There may also be a crossing guard during school hours -- not sure about that. As for noise, that will depend upon how close your house is to the road and how much vegetation is in between, but it's certainly not like living next to the Beltway.

Thank you both for your comments - they're very helpful. My thoughts were similar to your comments but not living in the area and having only driven by once, I couldn't be certain....so I definately appreciate members giving me advice. Thank you.
