Keep in mind he's on 29 and 29 is usually much worse than 234 which is your route.

Another thing you can do is look at WTOP traffic or Googlemaps and see what the intersection looks like. This week may not be a good week as many people I would think are on leave. Right now it shows a little heavy traffic at the intersection but on 234 and not on 29.

I typically leave my house between 7:30-8:00. I would assume that there a number of cars coming down 234 to cut through to Gum Springs or to get to Lee Highway or Sudley. I see a surprising number of trucks coming through the intersection from that way when I'm stopped at the light. Maybe from Luck Stone?

Ashton & Sudley Manor to Catharpin is a pretty ideal commute. I'm sure it would beat almost anyone's on this board. A lot of people on this board always say the sky is falling with regard to any commute so don't get scared.

Power would be NOVEC. They are a cooperative, so much better than the for profit ones. Gas is Washington Gas. Cable is Comcast. FIOS is available in some parts of the area. I have it and live in Haymarket.

Thank you, Spleuchan for that info! It sounds like nothing will change except cable/internet/phone. I've gotten spoiled with Fios but honestly it's just toooo expensive.

I thought his post said he wanted to move TO Catharpin, so his commute wouldn't be from the Manassas area

Yep, you caught my typo. Wrote it in the afternoon, when the commute would be Manassas to Catharpin, but sorry to confuse.
