While cleaning out the basement, have a couple boxes of recent, once read books. Lots of Vince Flynn (some autographed hardcover), Michael Creighton, and many post 9-11 themes.

In the past, old books have their own dumpster at the recycle center but these seem too good to just recycle. Don't think Goodwill takes in books.

Do libraries take in books? Or where is a place in NOVA where we can donate our newer fiction and non- fiction editions?

I believe the PWC library takes them and then sells them at their used book sale that they have once or twice a year. The proceeds from the book sale goes back into the library.

I think Goodwill does take books! They sell them. As far as I know, most if not all libraries do as well. Might want to contact local schools and see if they want them for their libraries.

Libraries do take in books. Dunno where you are specifically, but Sherwood Hall library always has a cart for donations right next to the checkout counter. Most other libraries I know take 'em at the counter... also if there's a lot, you may want to call/inquire ahead.

Thank you. I'll try the PWC library first, then goodwill.

Goodwill does indeed take books. Libraries are also an option. A third option is to consider taking them to a used book store where you can either get paid a small price or get credit to put toward purchasing books.

There was a recent thread: https://www.city-data.com/forum/north...ok-stores.html

Though used book stores are often selective, so count on them only taking some.

Most libraries will take book donations. They are then sold to raise money for the library.

Also, The Good Shepherd Alliance takes books, too. We've donated quite a few to them. They, too, sell them and use the proceeds to help homeless families in LoCo. Their donation sites are in the back of their thrift stores. You can also fill out a receipt if you itemize donations at tax time.

Might be a bit too far away, but the VA hospital in Richmond offers a library service to patients, Perhaps they would like to have the books.

How about donating them to a nursing home?
