(New) Ashburn resident here, and frequent user of the greenway/toll rd. Used the 495 express lane a few weeks ago (never have done this before), and received an invoice for doing so...does the Ezpass not work on the 495 express lanes? So confusing...(FYI my ez-pass auto replenishes funds so that is not the issue). Thanks.

Do you have an E-ZPass Flex? Or just a regular E-ZPass?

E-ZPass Flex can toggle between toll and HOV modes, and that's the model required to drive in the 495 & 95 express lanes.

Both EZ-Pass versions work on the express lanes. The Flex version just lets you switch to HOV mode when carpooling so you don't pay the toll.

Rajont - if you have a flex, could it have been in HOV mode when it shouldn't have been? Or maybe something was blocking it?

The battery may be dead in your ezpass. How old is it?

Do you have it installed correctly? I know the readers on the Toll Road and Greenway are lower that the readers on the HOT lanes of 495.

Never have had any issues using the ez-pass; use the greenway everyday...looks like I will have to dispute this.

Did the charge also show up on your EZ pass bill? If not, I'm not sure what you would dispute.

If it's your first offense the 495 express lane cartel gives you a freebie if you call their customer service line. I believe they just bill your EZ pass account directly for the toll and waive the invoice/admin fee, but OP will have to call them to see what they want.

I called once for an evening charge and pleaded that I never travel home that late on week nights and they compared the previous 2 months and agreed. They waived the charge off the EZ Flex but we're talking something different.

My point is that if you have a story that's rare, they may give you sympathy.
