Hi Everyone,

I am looking to move to the Stone Ridge area, and I am looking for an apartment to rent, 2 bedroom or a small house. The prices I am seeing in this area are pretty expensive and was hoping to get advice on less expensive areas that are nearby, a 30 minute commute is not a problem. Thank you for your help.

Susan

Are you commuting to Stone Ridge? What is your budget?

Hi Spencgr,

Yes I will be commuting to Stone Ridge for work. Our Budget is about $1200-$1500 per month for rent.

You will definitely be at the high end of your budget. For complexes, I found

The Abbey and Devon at South Riding - Thoroughgood Drive | South Riding, VA Apartments for Rent | Rent.com®

Another option for you, if you don't mind a more rural scene is looking for rentals on some of the large horse farms as you head west from Stone Ridge. Most of them have 1 and 2 bedroom guest houses and cottages; many of which are rented out.

What a great idea! Are there listings for these cottages? Or is it word of mouth or just driving around?

Thank you so much for the information.

I would try:

1) Word of mouth - spend a day in Middleburg and ask employees of cafes/ stores, etc
2) Bulletin boards at the Aldie and Middleburg post offices
3) Real Estate agents that specialize in Loudoun horse properties (Atoka Properties, Middleburg Real Estate, Thomas and Talbot)
4) Online research (Virginia Equestrian.com Classifieds: Equestrian Properties)

Thank you so much. You have been a huge help. I really appreciate all of your great ideas.

We are definitely going to make a trip out before we move, so we will be able to check out the areas. Are there any areas that we should stay away from?

Closest ares Stone Ridge, South Riding, and Ashburn, and are all great areas; although way too cookie-cutter suburban for my tastes.

Going west, there really isn't anywhere you want to avoid; it's all rural horse and wine country.

Heading south, you'll get to Manassas and Gainesville (not sure if they are within 30 minute commute), and there may be a few pockets of avoidable areas, but generally fine.

I don't think you'll find anything farther east within your budget.
