Saw some Chinese pay 2.1 billion for 17.55 acres a few weeks ago.....maybe you could get a good house on about an acre outside of Manassas for 500k.....tolerable commute...but the congestion around Chantilly is harsh. The last 10 miles could take an hour.

I agree finding everything on the wishlist could be hard. For instance you can get a house for 500k with 5 acres and probably still be close to an hour from Chantilly, but it might be a very rural area and not have the ambience you want. Or you can get that ambience but might give up some acreage to stay within 500k. In any case being willing to be an hour from Chantilly(which is already pretty far out) opens up a lot of possibilities for you, especially if your husband doesn't go into the office everyday or could possibly go in/leave work a little early. You could probably find something suitable.
