My aunt lives in Chicago in a high end building on the lake.

She is also on the buildings management board.

Spoke to her today. Bed bugs are an issue. She has a friend that had her apartment treated but they are having trouble finding someone to treat a chair.

In some cities it is worse than others. Do a Google.

Bed bugs scare the living daylights out of me.

You are looking too cheap. I could probably name the apartment complexes youre looking at.

Cockroaches are not normal at all in Northern VA. They are normal in super hot climates like Atlanta, Los Angeles, Miami etc

Exactly. I grew up here and this is the first I’m hearing of it.

OP, it’s not ideal but you probably need to go further out, you’re looking at super cheap apartments and in NoVa nothing is cheap unless it’s super sketch.

I disagree. Cockroaches are common in most - if not all - parts of the US. They are a hardy species tolerant to extreme temperature - hot and cold.

One of the easiet ways to bring cockroaches into your home is with cardboard boxes. A cockroach will squeeze into an opening of a cardboard box and lay eggs. You bring that cardboard box home, and the eggs hatch. I am careful with bringing in boxes - any box that comes in my house (from Costco, deliveries, even from my office job - my place of employment has cockroaches even though we have monthly bug spraying) gets unpacked immediately and then set out on my back deck until trash day.

Nonetheless, this thread was started a year ago so hopefully OP found a bug free place.
