Does anyone know if any actual retail is coming? Can't find any updates about the development in the past year or so. It appears that only condos and THs will be built but I'm curious if anyone else has any insight.

Seems like a purely housing community from just driving by. They don't have any storefront space on Lee Highway so I can't imagine it being mixed use, right?

The retail issue has been bogged down for years. Basically, they must have enough occupied office space to assure the sort of daytime population that retail would need while not also becoming a lure to other people in private cars.

I think this is mostly right, but at this point I think the developer would love to lure just about anyone to any potential retail there whether they're in cars or not. The Mosaic District beat them to the punch. With Pan Am close by and Fairfax Circle being redeveloped, I don't see retail coming to Metrowest for a long time.

I drive by this development every day and it's strange to see so much empty space next to the metro station while the townhomes are tightly packed together with very little green space. I remember people moving there several years ago hoping for a Whole Foods or Harris Teeter and years later there's still no plans for any retail.

There have always been plans fro retail at MetroWest. They just haven't worked out, mostly as developers (and not just Pulte) failed to make good on their promises. The situation at the Dunn Loring Metro station has worked out much better. They started later and still have the shops and restaurants already in place, including the Harris-Teeter.

Yeah I was thinking of the wrong development. Reading the history of this development makes me think it's an example of what not to do in suburban/urban development.

Driving through, there is nothing appealing about the space as its developed now.

What a wasted opportunity. I wonder how Mosaic cracked the code of successfull retail with little office space, I guess they got a critical mass of apartment buildings/condos.

It was popular even before the townhouses or most apartments were open. The theater first drew us there. And the restaurants. They weren't the usual chain ones either. They've consistently had destination restrairants and shops. I appreciate that outside of the Christmas rush, I never have trouble with parking.
