On paper, it seems to be the perfect place for us (we are Republicans). And I love the house we bought. On the other hand, how else to get a feel for a place if you don't hear both the positives and the negatives? ETA; these opinions would not have swayed my decision. Unless of course the area had a high crime rate. But I would have my homework beforehand if I suspected that to be the case.

It's a charming place to live. Despite what gomason said, there are many other Republican precincts in Fairfax County.

You will LOVE Clifton, everyone does, particularly Republicans.

Then I think you'll be happy.

My last speeding ticket was for that exact reason so I hate Clifton. And its one of the only Republican precincts in all of Fairfax County.

If you were speeding in Clifton then you deserved a ticket. Not a safe area to be speeding.

It's a nice area, I've always liked Clifton. When there isn't traffic, it's a very beautiful drive. The only downside is the bad traffic during rush hour. Also, most people who move there like it since it's one of the few conservative areas left in Fairfax County.

Best of luck!

Is it welcoming and tolerating of folks of foreign backgrounds though?

Uh... I would look in other parts of Fairfax County to be completely honest. As much as I like Clifton, personally I wouldn't live there since it is so conservative but there are people who specifically seek that out and of course there's nothing wrong with that.

Sure enough, was just curious - although what if those foreigners/immigrants are just as affluent and speak English fluently?

Well overall I'd like to think Clifton is a tolerant community, regardless of one's social status but someone who lives in Clifton would be able to better answer that.
