LCPS is actually covering about 80% of kinder kids with full-day kindergarten for this school year. The plan is to expand it to 100% over the next couple of years, I believe. There are still a handful of schools that are doing lotteries and, as you mention, those lotteries are completed for this school year.

As someone who has grown up in Loudoun County I wouldn't live here if I were you. Traffic is bad at all hours of the day, most things aren't walkable and public transportation is lacking, taxes are higher compared to Fairfax, hospitals and doctors aren't as good as in Fairfax, and neighborhoods tend to be less stable then those in the neigboring county. It's very inconvenient to DC as well as other established centers with a large amount of amenities such as Tysons corner.

LCPS while a very good system is also still trumped by it's counterpart in Fairfax. Fairfax is also a much better run compared to Loudoun in general.

With your budget I'd look at living in Reston it's self, Vienna, or Chantilly in that order.
Traffic in Loudoun is not bad at all hours of the day. I don't know how you can say that. It's only bad during peak hours. If you're comparing to Fairfax County everything else, than why not compare the traffic. It's worse in Fairfax County, but even there it's fine except during peak hours. That's not including 7, 66, and 495, which can get backed up for no clear reason at any hour.

I live in Loudoun and looked at spending $200k more on a house to "be closer" in Reston.

Once I factored in the traffic spent on side roads after getting off 267, I barely cut any time off my commute. Reston has other aspects I like, but spending that kind of money to have some mature trees in my yard with the same commute is tougher to swallow. The Loudoun commuter bus line is a better mass transit option for my job than Metro or Fairfax Connector.

And with 66 becoming HOT lanes, I pretty much eliminated any houses where I would need to rely on 66 to commute. The 495 and 95 HOT tolls make the Greenway look affordable.

And on the weekend, I have no problem shooting down to the Kennedy Center for a show. Traffic is rarely an issue.
