How do mosquito magnets cope? I'm covered head to toe in bites. I hate the way commercial pesticides such as Deet feel, and I question their safety for long term use. Eucalyptus/lemon oil doesn't do squat. Any ideas?

Where are you? Out in Shenandoah Valley we see very little of them.

Deet is the only spray that works.
Fans are the only deterrence mechanism for a backyard or deck.
Spraying your yard for the season works.
Citronella doesn’t work. Candles don’t work. Bats don’t work. Plants don’t work.

If you're standing in one place, then a fan helps a lot. Otherwise, this is one of the things about Virginia that seriously sucks.

First freeze. Good thing is they take their time gearing up in spring. I usually get a nice 3 months of planting from March-May before I get driven back inside.

I hike all over and enjoy being outside. You just need to cover up and apply actual bug spray. I’m a health nut, but I’d rather enjoy being outside than getting bit (and getting a host of diseases). Watch for the ticks too, especially in Clifton.

I would get on a season spraying program and build a screen porch

We were just talking about how awful the mosquitoes have been lately. UGH! I can hardly go outside to empty the garbage without them trying to bite me. I can't wait for that first freeze to come.

Maybe your septic field is saturated and attracting mosquitoes. I use wipe on Deet sheets and electronic devices.
