Either I am getting pickier as I age, but more likely, I am just not with the times. Everything (okay, many things) feel like the Jetson's. I remember Levitz, the hours I would spend in that store.....but my favorites were in Ballson (called Arlington back then), wholesalers that had great deals on some nice solid furniture. Now this is really going to date me, those wholesalers had admission tickets (lack of a better word) to be able to go to the Baltimore warehouse, known as Greenfront. (Okay, this was in the 1980's I want to say, newlyweds and on a tight budget - I got married at 12)). (j/k) Even after paying the delivery feel of a $100 back then for Baltimore to Vienna, I still saved quite a bit. I know Greenfront opened a showroom in Manassas, but the last time I was there, they weren't a bargain and almost everything (okay a lot) was heavy, ornate pieces. Someone said the Macy's at Ballston is a good place to check out.

Who do you miss, or who is your current favorite furniture store (that you can go and see it, not order it online and assemble for yourself)??

You're correct....the furniture stores around her are pretty bad. I can't think of what I miss specifically. I used to go out to Chantilly on the weekends and hit Two-Day furniture or something like that. It was only open on Saturday and Sunday and was cash and carry. They had some nice pieces of somewhat high quality manufacturers. I think they were owned by Stanis Furnitue which is also gone, I believe.

I bought my last sectional at C.L. Barnes which was in Woodbridge (now also gone). I paid close to $4,000 for it and it was made by a company in Indiana. It's now been 15 years and I have searched high and low for a new one. I ended up going down to Fredericksburg. They have some okay places. I liked a few things at Powell's Furniture. They had traditional furniture, reasonably priced. You could custom design a sectional.

I then found a few things I LOVED at Ethan Allen. Their section was, by far, the most comfy but would have been close to $7,000. Yes, $7,000.

Finally, I ended up at Greenfront which is about a 25 minute drive from my house. Smack in between Woodbridge and Gainesville. I got a sectional for about $2800 made by a company associated with Sherrill, which Greenfront sells a LOT of and is $$$ but makes a fabulous chair or sofa.

Otherwise, I like Greenfront but most things are out of my price range and too big.

I found a small sofa for my living room that I got at West Elm.

But furniture shopping has gotten very odd to say the least.

I hate everything at Macy's.
