Coming from MN, I chuckle at the short golf season reference I don't know about the nicer courses, but the FFx Co courses really don't "close" for the season. They just close when the weather is bad or the course is unplayable.

I would highly recommend staying in a short term rental, Airbnb, etc at least for a couple of weeks in the area you are considering. My friends in laws visited often and bought a place near their family and only after a couple of weeks they decided that the traffic and congestion almost 24/7 was too much for them.

There are distinct advantages to both Reston and Haymarket/Gainesville (I live adjacent to Gainesville) with the later being closer to things to do west of the area and less congested.

You can certainly be in FC in 45 minutes but not during rush.

They don't close, but operate at large losses five months a year, and barely break even four more.... Golf course communities faired poorly in the crash. I paid 22,000 for a golf course condo in Phoenix right after the golf course closed. The neighbor paid 150k. It is now a Circle K, IHOP, and AutoZone. Possibly some subsidized housing on the other 50 acres.

Friend who once lived adjacent to a golf course in No. VA over 15 years ago got a great collection of golf putter balls. On the other hand, if can find out, check to see if your windows are better than average resistant to breakage.

A gas filled window sounds like an explosion, when hit by a golf ball. And wait till you see the people using the course as a cut through, or a place to bring the refugees to feed the ducks.

Default Not our first time thanks

Thanks for the helpful suggestions. As for the "don't live on a golf course" crowd, everyone has their preferences. We'll stick to ours if the right place presents itself.
