When the kids were younger, we had parties in the house. But now our son is almost 10, and they're all just too big and rowdy for an indoor party, and there's really nothing for them to do in our tiny house anyway. I've been looking into other venues, but they seem to start at 300. There is no way we can comfortably afford more than 200 total, and even that would be a stretch. My son only wants to have 5 or 6 kids, but I still can't find anything affordable. Any ideas? It's a winter birthday, so has to be indoors.

Dave and Busters. They have birthday party deals, but you can a la carte it yourself too. Should be under 200 easily and I would think something ten year old boys would enjoy.

It's been awhile since my kids were kids but we did LaserTag and bowling. I guess they sound "antiquated" today and kids want to do more exciting things now...I don't know. But $200-$300 sounds like a lot for 5-6 kids so it might help if you told us what types of places those are.

Ice Skating and pizza? Top Golf and pizza? Is the “Fly” place in Ashburn open yet (not sure about age restrictions)? A go-kart place?

I'm betting Fly and Top Golf are pricey....

Ice skating, bowling are probably going to run about $10 a person plus you have to add in food/drinks and the use of a party area.

When we did ice skating and LaserTag, they allowed us to have our own pizza delivered which is a savings.

Bowling alleys will generally not allow food to be brought in (well, nothing but a cake). When we did bowling for my son, we did it after lunch and before dinner, so they bowled one game and had cake. Didn't really need to provide lunch.

Top Golf says kids’ parties start at $25. https://topgolf.com/us/plan-an-event/

Might top $200 a little but it is a lot of fun and just a suggestion.

Through the years we did ice-skating, go-karts, bowling etc and fortunately pizza is cheap and everyone likes it. Key is to limit the number of kids.

All 300+ in my area, especially after you add in cost of pizza and cake, etc. It has to be in one location, because we can't drive all the kids around after the parents drop off.

So all the suggestions so far are near the 300 mark - do people just not have parties? How do you handle it?

I guess I have to ask where are living? I just checked LaserQuest and their premium package which includes 2 games, 2 slices of pizza, a drink, a party room, and a dedicated host comes to $196. You supply the cake. I realize it's in Woodbridge so probably not practical for you.

Bowl America in Burke has several plans with $18.00 per child being the most expensive. This includes bowling, food, video game tokens, T-shirt, passes for free bowling later, paper products. You supply the cake. That's $126 for your party of 7 without the cake.

So either you live in an area where the prices are outrageous or you've really got more than 7 kids in total that you are factoring in.

Bowling. $16 per kid.

Kids Birthday Party Menu - Fairfax - Bowl America

Ice Skating. $200

Top Golf. $25/ kid

https://topgolf.com/us/plan-an-event/

Movie Theater party... $13.50 / kid

All of these include food. A cake is inexpensive.

I'm beginning to think you didn't actually do any research.
