Hi

We are married couple with 1 kid considering a move to NOVA . My wife is working from home so we have the flexibility as long as we are close to Metro / bus

The area seems very interesting for me but I have some queries

1- Are jobs like cashier , indoor sales , store assistant , bookkeeping easily available ?

2-How is summer heat compared to NYC ,will it disrupt outdoor / parks ? do it cool at nights or still sweaty ?

3-During NYC winters there are some temperate days with sunshine , is it the same in ARL-DC winters ?

4- If unable to find office job at the beginning , are food delivery jobs like UberEats / Grub hub /Caviar common in ARL-DC ? it’s good in NYC

5-I saw some 1 BR apartment listings in Alex & Arlington under $1600 , Is there any trick as price seems great compared to how expensive the area is

6-is job market for civil private sector Jobs good , more specific aviation / logistics . or most of jobs are military –government related ?

Appreciate your answers

1. Of the jobs you listed, the first 3 are easily available. I don't know about the fourth one. Perhaps others can provide info.

2. The summers here are very humid. I know that NYC can also get very humid then, too. Some will argue that it isn't as bad in NYC. IMO, that's up for debate...

3. Winters here are definitely milder. That said, last winter was unseasonably cold. I'm from MA and the temps last winter reminded me of winter there. So...occasionally there are winters that are outside the norm.

4. I can't speak to that. Again, perhaps other posters can provide that info.

5. IMO, apartments in that price range in Alexandria and Arlington tend to be ones in older buildings, or, perhaps basement ones in someone else's home. Either that or they are in areas that aren't accessible to Metrorail or the area isn't the greatest. Here is a website that discusses Arlington rents:

https://www.rentjungle.com/average-r...a-rent-trends/

6. The government is one of the biggest job providers in the area. Again, I can't speak to which particular govt. jobs are in demand these days. Hopefully, those in the know will chime in on that.

I don't know that you can rent only a 1 BR w/a child - I'm not sure but I think you need a 2 BR.

As for the humidity, it's nothing extreme IMO (go to Southern NC and SC and that IS humid) - although my friends from Pa. think it's pretty bad - you get used it. I agree on the price commentsfrom BOX2IAD, you need to do research on the areas and try to get honest reviews of the places, areas, etc.

I think general retail jobs are pretty easy to get if that's what you are referring to?

I assume you've done your own research on the area such as temperatures, etc. before deciding you want to move here?

I missed that^^^^about having a child. That said, I agree with you---no decent apartment complex would rent a one bedroom to a couple with a child. It's okay if it is a couple with no children renting a one bedroom but decent places won't allow overcrowding to occur.
