So I'm wanting to relocate to L.A. to pursue film composing and acting. Wanted to get some info on where to reside when I first get there as I've heard it's really bad in some places. I don't live in Nova anymore, but when I did, the worst place I lived in was Sterling Park.

There was a pretty big MS-13 population where I lived by the park, and I would be down playing basketball every night and walking around at night by myself all the time. I say that because since I was raised in rough part of the county, I know what to do and what not do. I walked around some back alleys by Bourbon Street in New Orleans by myself and did fine, so I'm not stupid when it comes to bad areas.

My question is seeing as how I'll just be washing dishes when I first get there and not making a lot, what are some towns within about 30 minutes of L.A. that I'll be able to afford with a roommate that are about as safe as Sterling Park or Herndon/Fairfax.

The SW and SE parts of D.C. are a bit too rough for me, but the NE and obviously NW parts are fine. I've heard North Hollywood is pretty safe. I've heard Van Nuys is bad, but how is it compared to Fairfax? Compton I know is cheap, and I've heard it's gotten a lot better over the years.

Let me know your suggestions. Thanks.

You should probably post in the LA forum.

I've flown in and out of LAX a few times? I can give you advice on this location. Avoid the Mexican restaurant. My credit card was ripped off when I was there last.
