We had a 1979 built townhouse in Oakton. It had concrete cinderblocks between each home and all brick facade. We could here very very loud music or very very loud toddler meltdowns. I’d give it a 9.

It was not generally an issue. It wasn’t like in our 1960-built apartment where I could hear a phone ring clearly through the wall. A friend had a 2001 built townhouse in Fairfax near Fairfax Corner and they could hear normal noise associated with kids playing but the real issue was the TV which would shake their walls.

My townhome was built in the early 2000's and I would give it an 9. I can't hear nearly as much as when I lived in an apartment. If all the TVs are off and the neighbors are loud I can hear a slight rumble of the subwoofer as well as loud bangs (that dont sound very loud at all on my end). But....what is annoying is that I have neighbors that like to stand outside or let their dogs out. The windows aren't nearly as soundproof as the walls.
