Yeah makes sense, but using the company that invented BLOATWARE, seems like the wrong way to do it. Cloud or no cloud, Microsoft will always be the quintessential FAT CLIENT, and so will the populace of the DMV.

You seem to have very strong, and rude opinions, for someone who can barely communicate in their native language and seems particularly unknowledgeable on many subjects they speak about. I highly doubt that MS "invented" bloatware. Also though I have had some problems with MS it is not that they bad.

Seriously? Dude, thought you were growing up a bit and moving on from the dumb insults.

I don’t know enough about this subject to comment. I’m not into “tech” and if I can avoid it, I will. So I defer to the far more experienced to judge, which are many in our area! My only “tech” comment I can offer, as it may relate to Microsoft, is that in 2013 I threw in the towel and went to the Apple store and said “I want a computer that doesn’t require much from me to keep running, and if I have a problem, turning it off/on will solve it most of the time”. Bought a MacMini, and to this very day is our computer and has never once caused us heartburn. But again - take that in context of who’s posting it. Ha!

There is a fascinating episode of Frontline on this month (PBS) about automation and Artificial Intelligence. I say up watching it last night. Truly stunning and frightening as hell! Microsoft was on there, and was impressed they were one of the first companies to support regulation on automation and AI in our evolving world. End of the day - I think we’re miles down the road from Windows ME..

I went the other way. I purchased an Apple IIe but was turned off when I had to buy an Apple mouse for twice what most of the other mice cost. So now I build my own PC's. I still use Win 10 but I am not really happy with it because they are making it more for tablets.

Apple is not bad, I just want more openess. Also I remember when Microsoft bought Apple stock to keep it afloat. Could I go Linux? Yes. But I also use my PC for some games and those do not run on Linux.

I used to do the same - built my own with clean/pure copies of Windows. Hal does have a point of Microsoft machines being loaded up with other programs that you don’t really want or need - but I believe they’re mostly off the shelf stuff from retailers. I grew so tired of it that I figured out how to build my own about 15 years ago and just loaded the operating system, office, and games. As I aged (46) the games faded, and it just became one update after another after another. The glitches here glitches there. Time got short as kids arrived, career took off, house projects increased, and the tech ran away from me. That’s when Apple came into our lives. I did buy the one with the fastest processor and most RAM, and then bought two 1t’s SSD’s for it which unlocked its true potential. It was a 40th bday gift and has been great. We’re an Apple family for sure, won’t turn back, even though it does cost more initially. But we’re nowhere close to using a computer like I suspect you are and most of the others around here. For us, it’s primarily email, photos, and internet with the occasional MS Word document. It’s more of our portal to the online world than anything else.

I’m part of the demographic that I think is intimidated by all of this advanced tech and would rather dodge it as much as possible now. My favorite feature in my car is the ability to simply/easily turn off the glowing TV screen on the dash with just one simple button on the armrest. Looked at the new version, and was just too much, so bought used CPO previous version instead. And it has an actual clock.

Where “tech” does serve this family well - Comcast! Had Fios for many years. Neighbor ditched for Comcast and showed me how easy it was to use and control. We did the same two years ago. That is AI that is built for a family like ours.

Kids have consoles for the games and built a movie room for them to play them on, which is great because their friends are here and allows us to know where they are in the world. And if they run off - Apple iWatch to track them (but they don’t know that part -shhh our secret)!

It was a typo, but I guess I should expect you to go racist at any chance.

You accuse me of not communicating in my native language, because I used tech terms out of your limited mind, and then refer to your own ignorant babbling as typos? Yeah, right.

"I bought an Apple 2e".... damn, dude, save it for the nursing home dinner, they might even give you some wine if you quit drooling... but, FYT, we are talking about 2019:, not 1984...i just can't wait to hear about you replacing your rotary dial phones, or your first subscription to BEN...

Ok, well aside from that crap.

It’s kind’ve funny how we were all speculating what HQ2 could mean for home valuations out here in Loudoun....and Microsoft squeezed right in under the radar - who had already secured the compass crossing area by the Leesburg airport for a major data center (or two), and is now rumored to be on fast track activities to consolidate and in pursuit of finding roughly 300,000 SF of initial office space somewhere from Reston westward... So we have HQ2 now, lost Apple, but ended up with a Microsoft juggernaut instead... should be fun to watch what happens now!

article today in wash biz journal made it sound like “Jedi” wasn’t really awarded to Microsoft as we’ve understood Jedi to be. Not a 10 year $10b award to Microsoft, but rather a reduced 2 year at $200m with a review of progress at that point to renew. So maybe it’s been sliced and diced and modified to sprinkle around instead - or awarded with a different time frame that curiously aligns to the completion date for HQ2 construction. I say that because I find it curious amazon doesn’t appear to be protesting the decision at this point.

If you are wanting to keep a good reputation with the government people that are doing the purchasing, you are not going to protest and just end up looking like a sore looser. I could be wrong of course, but I'd be surprised to see this company drag the fed to court, especially in that the Pentagon is not the only DOD agency in the area.
