Hi all! There's a rental I'm interested in in the South Riding/Chantilly area. I need to get to the Inova Fairfax Hospital area and my shift is 10 am to 6:30 pm. What would be the best bet for my route there and back? What time would I need to leave, barring accidents, to arrive by 9:30? I hate to be late. I appreciate your help!

You can head east on Route 50 until you get to Gallows Road, then head south on Gallows Road. That said, it's a lot of stop and go traffic, not to mention congestion. As to how long it would take...I can't say.

Perhaps someone who is more familiar with the South Riding area can provide a better route for you.

Thanks! I am in Manassas now so wondering if the commute from that area would be any better than 66.

Well...you can't go by me as I do my best to avoid 66. I'm the type who would put up with 50 instead of dealing with 66. But that's just me. Hopefully, others will chime in with their thoughts.

Have you looked at rentals closer to the hospital? Would you consider apartment living? If so, why not look into the Dunn-Loring area?

As nice as it would be to live closer in, at this time it's not an option.

Yeah, seems like your best options are 50 to Gallows or 66. It's doable, but I'd leave at 8:30 if you're trying to make it by 9:30 to give yourself a cushion.

Luckily, traffic is usually light on Fridays because many companies allow employees to telework.

No, it's hell. Hour plus each way. 6:30pm is middle of rush hour 66 is a parking lot all the way back out to Fair Oaks mall many days (50 is no better). It could take you 90 minutes to get back to south riding.

Unless you are already commuting from manassas every day and are used to spending most of your life in your car I would not recommend you live that far from the hospital area.

Thanks! It looks like I'll be staying in Manassas and commuting from here after all. At least I know the hell to expect from here. Side note, if people would just let other people in on 66 and stop trying to keep people from changing lanes, and if people would actually signal their intent to change lanes, and if people stopped whipping around stopped traffic at the last minute without braking so the poor SOB behind them knows the traffic is stopped and doesn't rear end someone, there would be lots fewer accidents and less back up and life would be much easier. By Friday I was tempted to pull over at the next accident and tell the parties involved "thanks" from the rest of us.
