In case some hadn't heard - not long ago Alex. City and Arl. County joined Fairfax and Loudoun counties in deciding to close. Alex. and Arl. (both the same schedule I believe I know for Alex.) - are closed starting Mon. until April 13. I know this will be difficult for families - hang in there.

The governor just announced closing all Virginia public schools for at least two weeks.

Alex. and Arl. are for a month! Not sure about the others - I know this is going to cause a hardship and difficulties for some families

Probably a preliminary concern at this point but I wonder if the missed days are even going to be attempted to be made up or if the waiver will be granted to bypass the 180 day requirement.

I'm not sure about the other school districts but FCPS has 18 snow days built in to their calendar so they will barely exceed that with the length of shutdown they've announced. Guess it's lucky we didn't have any snow this winter. If the shutdown continues beyond mid April, I would imagine that online learning would be offered. In the end, I can't imagine there wouldn't be something put in place to waive the 180 day requirement if necessary.

PWCS sent out an email. The next two weeks declared by the governor are already waived, so the built in days aren’t being used yet.

ok, I see a lot of chatter about "required" days and potential make-up days, and waived days. But is anyone concerned about the actual content that these children will not be learning?

Yes. I’ve seen a lot of chatter about that.
