Herndon Parkway to Crestview Dr to Lincoln Ave (Sterling) should be very safe for practice driving., keeping to the right lane at most times.

Turn right on Church Rd.
Continue on the road as you cross Sterling Blvd.
Turn right on Lincoln Ave, the first right after the crossing.
Continue until you get to E. Maple Ave and turn right towards the shopping center and the DMV.

If you wish to practice in a large open area, I would use the Dulles Town Center or Herndon High School.
My driving test was different. Turned left onto Commerce Street, right on E. Holly, then left on some side street...after driving down some other streets, made our way back to the DMV. I remember thinking at the time that the driving test was a joke. When I talked to a co-worker about it, she recalled being told "decide if you want to make left turns or right turns". As she put it, she chose all right turns as it was easier.

Remember to be careful at the bike path At the end of Lincoln, left turns on to Church Road can be tricky---yikes!
