Are you really complaining about 5 cents? We have had a statewide ban on plastic bags now for a few months, when the current supply runs out only paper is allowed, at a charge of 8 cents each. Ours is not a tax, but is kept by the stores to cover the cost of the paper bags. Either way, if you are spending $100 for 3 bags of groceries, how big a deal is another 24 cents (in your case 15 cents) for bags?

DC started this years ago!! Have you not seen the irresponsible way that bags are tossed? You see them blown up into trees, into waterways, etc. - just use your recyclable bags~

How juvenile.

In CA they at least give you decent bags for your money. Here it's the same thin plastic, easily ripped crap they gave you for free.

I’m in favor of motivating people to bring their own bags. We try to recycle responsibly but our apartment complex doesn’t have nearly enough recycling bins—they are overflowing a couple days after garbage service empties them. (This is in Reston which seems to have a rule for everything else)

I first heard of this kind of thing in Denmark. This kind of tax makes more sense than some other kinds of taxes. I learned to bring our own bag and not need to pay this tax. I have no reason to complain about it.

Seriously, I think they are making them more flimsy with holes on purpose.

I shop at Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. They use paper bags so the tax is irrelevant.

Get ready for reports of people getting sick because of the leakage from chicken and other raw meats into their reusable bags that they don't sanitize after each use.
