Per the Wall Street Journal, this should be officially announced next week.

I believe the Chicago HQ only had a few hundred employees, and more execs might have already been based in Arlington, with Seattle still having the lion's share of employees. Still with any potential expansion at this Arlington location would be noticeable, and it's significant being blocks away from Amazon's HQ2.

^ Could be also some residual affect of the 2nd largest company on the continent opening their 2nd headquarters across the street. But it appear that execs being closer to the capital city was most important. Boeing was already there, it's just turning the East Coast HQ, into the overall corporate HQ.

Better to be near the government contracts, and clearly Lori has no pull whatsoever with the business community.

Will be interesting to see how many added jobs in each place. Great luck to H-Town.

To be honest I only expect the numbers to be in the hundreds for added jobs at least for Arlington. There were already 2,400 employees in the offices there. Which is multiple times more than were in the Chicago HQ building since the pandemic.

In addition to being much closer the the world's most powerful city, I think the quality of life in Arlington surpasses the quality of life in Chicago, and the winters in VA are MUCH warmer to boot!

Boeing news media clip:

The company will establish a research and technology hub in Northern Virginia, in addition to HQ relocation. The hub will focus on developing innovations in the areas of cyber security, autonomous operations, quantum sciences and software and systems engineering.

I lived in Chicago at the time of the headquarters move, and <500 jobs were ever promised. Granted, HQ has some very high-paying jobs, and being the HQ brings substantial presence in terms of things like charitable giving.

Boeing's defense + space business is 39% of revenue, vs. 29% for commercial aviation. One-third of its defense orders come from abroad, and DC is probably an easier place to meet those clients.

This is a huge win for northern VA and the DC metro area. Big loss for Chicago though.

I can understand why they would locate closer to the US capital. Better overall quality of life for its residents. The winters will be pretty easy, compared to Chicago's.
