Hi, we are considering buying a place in Old Town Alexandria to rent out. As we are looking to slow down/retire a few years from now, this would help supplement our monthly income (to have it paid off by then). Any thoughts on this area? Would it be easy enough to rent a place there? If so, what's in demand? Who would live there? Etc. We are in MD, but my neighbor who is a Compass agent recommended Old Town Alexandria for an investment property as opposed to other towns. Thanks!

don't buy anything right now. The prices are continuing to drop. Wait until the price stabilizes.

Depending on your price range, most of the housing market in Old town are townhomes or row homes. Lots of stairs and no downstairs bedrooms or in some cases even bathrooms. We nixed the idea of buying a rental to later live in after retirement because of the stairs. We are keeping an eye out for a large apartment in some of the new buildings, but since we still have pets we will wait to see if we will get another dog.

Old town will always be popular, it has restaurants and lots of access.
