It seems that Ellis Elementary in Manassas (PWC), is pretty bad according to SchoolDigger and SchoolMatters. The scores seemed low. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with Ellis, and if so, tell me honestly what you think about it. Thanks!

Default scores

What do you consider a bad school? I looked at their scores and demographics. 41% qualify for free or reduced lunch. A large number of students are minority, probably ESOL. I didn't see ESOL numbers. Third graders passed their SOL tests in the low 80-90% ranges, except for reading in 2007. Many schools with larger ESOL populations experienced a drop in passing rates for the reading test in '07 since they were no longer allowed to read aloud the test to ESOL students.
When I look at the numbers I interpret it to mean that the school is doing a pretty good job considering the scores they have and the demographics they are working with.

Ellis is a good school- I see the teachers taking so much interest in the children's activities and trying their best to ensure that they are provided a well-rounded life.

I agree with tgbwc- sometimes statistics is not the only standard to go by. A svhools performance report cannot be solely attributed as a function of the teachers's performance, but also the demographics they work with.

Please understand- I am just a parent and have no significant interest in the school. However I must tell you that my daughter's interest and performance went Northwards only after she was guided so nicely by the Ellis teachers. Now she gets upset if she has a holiday!!
