HI,

We need to add some hardwood floors to our home. My son is asthmatic and getting some HW floors in the area he sleeps and plays in most makes it easier to keep it dust free (one of his biggest allergens/probable asthma trigger).

So, anyone have some suggestions on who to call? We hope to get 3-4 bids before selecting someone.

What we expect:
A person who shows up when they say they will.
Someone willing to put the bid and start/finish date in writing.
Someone with experience.

Thanks for your help!

Sorry I don't have anyone to recommend as my husband and I installed our hardwood floors ourselves. Of course that was 7 years ago, don't know if I would have it in me to do that again!

What I wanted to share is I have heard if it is medical necessary, you have a diagnosed allergy/asthma that you can show proof of, that you will be able to deduct the cost on your taxes. I hope this is correct and just thought I would mention it to you. lol of course I heard this years after we did ours.

Good luck finding a contractor.

Depends on where you live. If you're anywhere near Manassas, we had Carpet Royale do our home (carpet, vinyl, and hardwood) and they did a nice job. They've done the work for several family members who all recommended them.

we aren't in the area anymore ...but are in the process of having floors put in right now!!
(they are sanding them as I type!)

Some things to consider...
DO you want SOLID wood on wood floors (this is what we are doing and having them hand scrapped on site) this process is more expensive and take LONGER. (the wood has to cure for 2 weeks before they sand stain etc...) Aslo your flor height will be raised, so you may need all your doors snaded etc... (playwood 3/4" then the wood planks are about 1")

OR...
in 2 days you can Prefinished floors layed. They glue them down and are done quickly. These floors are not solid wood, they have a wood "vaneer" ontop of a composite.
These ususally can not be refinished (we found that out as that was what was in this house in the kitchen...) some of the better ones do have a thicker vaneer and can be resanded and refinished 1-2 times.

just some food for though on the research process...
