You know, there are some cheaper houses in McLean. You can get an old ranch house, for example, in some parts of McLean for $500k or so. There are currently at least 4 single family houses listed below $550k in McLean, and a number of townhouses, and once you get to condos you're in fat city. And that doesn't include people who have listed their house too high but that might take a lower offer. Just because you can spend millions to get into a neighborhood doesn't mean you always have to. So you shouldn't just completely rule out any neighborhoods as "too expensive" before you check out what's actually available. That goes for neighborhoods in MoCo too.

Fairfax County supervisors area already planning to raise taxes next year, so do NOT let that be a deciding factor. Keep your life a little simpler by living as close as you can within your budget to your husband's job.

We can't do a TH as we have a dog that needs a yard and I am disabled w/ MS so I can't do the walks.

Thank you
I know they are doing just that in Loudoun county.
