The OP indicated that she and her spouse expected to be able to work near where they lived - if that's correct, Woodson would be an ideal choice.

West Springfield is well regarded also - but the school is now somewhat overcrowded and in lousy physical condition, and WS likely won't be renovated until after several other high schools are renovated first. The fact that the school board proposes to build a new middle school in Lorton while WS's condition deteriorates has been a source of controversy.

In comparison, Woodson either was just renovated or the renovations are close to being finished.

West Springfield (22152) has always sent lots of students to the best universities. 350-550K. No Problem. Low crime.

Your putting alittle too much emphasis solely on schools. If you teach your kids the fundamentals to success, it doesn't really matter where they attend, they'll be successful regardless. Don't sacrifice your envisioned quality of life just to attend a school that's rated .5 higher in some survey.

How close do you have to be to DC? Stafford, VA, which is down near Fredericksburg, has one of the best high schools in the United States.
