mark_04, my allergist here said that (1) it generally is better for most people than are most parts of the midwest, which have bad ragweed seasons, but (2) because there is such a wide variety of plants and trees here because of gifts from countries all over the world, some people who move here encounter something that causes reactions, whereas they did not run into that in other parts of the country.

I have to agree with your allergist. I grew up in NoVa and I have lived all over the US, including the Southeast (in Atlanta). By far, my allergies act up worse here than ANYWHERE else. I think it has a lot to do with the biodiversity and the fact that we get four legitimate seasons. That's a good thing, but you can definitely pay for it when the pollen flies.

Hi

I moved here to Winchester from Michigan about three years ago, and I work over in Fairfax Co. My allergies not only have been terrible here, they have worsened. I am sick most of the time with sinus infections that don't go away, sinus headaches, stuffy nose, swollen glands and nasal passages, etc. I am sick most of the time. I recently discovered that Northern VA was built on a swamp, which means there is a lot of mold here. I love the area, love the people and the friends I have made, and love the beauty all around me, but if I can't find a doctor to help with my allergies, I am going to have to relocate.

How is the weather throughout the year? Are there more sunny days or gray, overcast days
The weather is great. I would say mostly sunny, winters are milder than the North, but we still get some snow. Summers are hot and humid.

Either I've gotten so old that they aren't so bad anymore - and/or the allergy shots helped. I've been relatively good, still have some issues of course when the season is bad - but nothing that I can't live with. (I don't think I'm that old btw)
