renting near metro-walkable to library/Asian grocery stores/other families in Fairfax/Arlington/Annandale? (Woodbridge: apartment)

Hi,
Thanks for everyone's reply to a previous thread. More specifically, I will be working in Woodbridge and my mother will be commuting weekly from NYC by cheap Chinatown bus and then metro to my home to watch my children ages 1 and 3. I would love to rent (under 2K per month) a place within walkable distance to an Asian grocery store (preferably Chinese store because my mother speaks only Chinese, Chinese language school, Chinese Church, public library for storytime and parks. I would also love to be able to catch the highway to Woodbridge easily. So far, I have been looking into Dunn Loring at Merrifield apt on Prescott by Gallows rd, Vantage at Merrifield on Strawberry lane and Amberleigh on Anderson. Are these apt complexes family friendly? Are there other metro/ family friendly areas with short walk to park and Asian grocery store that I have overlooked. Some mentioned Annandale/Kingtowne but I do not see a metro stop there. Thanks for everyone's input!

There is an excellent Chinese grocery store in Merrifield and another in Annandale. Great Wall is right next to the Gold's Gym on Gallows Rd. It's excellent, everyone there speaks Chinese except for some of the guys cleaning the fish. In Annandale there's Kam Sam on Markham St. They also have a very good cheap restaurant attached called A&J's. Their food is more northern Chinese. Again, all the employees are Chinese. If the language isn't an issue, there are a lot of great Korean grocery stores in the area too. There's an H-Mart close to the Great Wall store on Gallows and a much larger one on Lee Hwy. in Fairfax.

BTW, the two best Sichuan restaurants in the area are China Star (Bai Chuan Wei) in Fairfax and Tempt Asian in Landmark. Those two places are what I miss most about the area, but I'm going to Chengdu for Xmas, so I'll get my fill then.

With the exception of convenient Metro access, Annandale will have everything you need. Besides what the previous poster mentioned, there is a library located on the "main drag" Route 236 aka Little River Turnpike. To make up for the lack of train service, there is a slew of buses that go through the area, many of which connect to Metrorail.

Kingstowne has the Franconia-Springfield Metro and the Kingstowne Library but the Asian Market closed several months ago.

There is also a new H Mart in Annandale on Heritage Drive off of Little River Turnpike.

Is there an apartment in the complex that hosts the Target in Merrifield? That will be perfect for his mother. Short walk to Great Wall and the hotpot restaurant next to Great Wall.
