I don't know off hand but it's not like we have any mills upriver polluting the Potomac. I would certainly think anything caught from Riverbend Park and to the west would be safe, since that's the stretch of the Potomac before you even get to most of the DC area.

The reason I ask is that I heard Anacostia River is pretty polluted. That river feeds into the Potomac.

The Anacostia is downriver of DC. It wouldn't affect the fishing spots upriver.

Please DO NOT fish in the ponds in the surrounding neighborhoods. The ponds are stocked with fish to EAT the mosquito larvae, not for fishing.

I wouldn't eat any fish from the Potomac River.

During heavy rains, the DC water system sewers sometimes overflows into the Potomac. Upstream, the watershed is affected by farm runoff. Here is an article on the issue:

Watch out for snakeheads! I kind of miss hearing about our new unofficial Potomac River mascot!
